Is Your Home Eligible?
The My Safe Florida Home program provides free wind mitigation inspections and matching grants—up to $10,000—for eligible hurricane protection improvements. Here’s what you need to qualify:
- Homestead Exemption: Your property must be your primary residence with an active Florida homestead exemption.
- Home Value: Your home must be insured for $700,000 or less.
- Construction Date: Your home’s building permit must have been issued before January 1, 2008.
- Property Type: Eligible homes are site-built, single-family detached residences or townhouses (up to three stories). Condos, cooperatives, and multi-family buildings are not eligible.
- Required Documents Submitted: You must provide the Original Contractor Invoices, Proof of Payment in Full (cancelled check, receipts, paid invoice), and Insurance Proof of Premiums Discounts (email, letter, new quote from insurance agent that outlines what, if any , discount is available).
2025 Grant Prioritization Groups
(Effective July 1, 2025):
- Low-Income Homeowners Age 60+ (income ≤ 80% of county median)
- Low-Income Homeowners (all ages)
- Moderate-Income Homeowners Age 60+ (income < 120% of county median)
- Moderate-Income Homeowners (all ages)
Only applicants in these four categories are eligible for new inspections and grants this year.

How the Grant Works
- For every $1 you contribute, the state provides $2, up to a maximum of $10,000 from the state.
- Example: For a $15,000 project, you pay $5,000 and the state covers $10,000. For a $10,000 project, you pay about $3,333 and the state pays $6,667.
- Homeowners must pay the full project cost upfront to the contractor, then request reimbursement for the state’s portion. Bridge loans or financing may be necessary, and Broward Impact can assist with this.
Limited Funding—Apply Early
Funding is limited and grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. For 2025, the program is funded with $280 million, with $100 million reserved for prior applicants. We strongly encourage eligible homeowners to apply as soon as possible.
Application Process: Two Steps
1. Apply for a Free Wind-Mitigation Inspection
- Create a portal account and submit your request.
2. Apply for a Wind-Mitigation Grant
- After your inspection from the STATE GRANT provider, use your report to apply for the grant.
Required: Group Prioritization Questionnaire
All applicants must complete the Group Prioritization Questionnaire in their program portal account to be assigned to an eligibility group and proceed with the application.
